There are days when even rest begins to feel like another item on the list.
Finish the laundry. Answer the message. Clean the kitchen. Make tomorrow’s list. Fold one more pair of socks before finally sitting down.
But what if, for a few minutes, you didn't?
What if you put the kettle on, chose a beautiful flower, and allowed yourself to be still long enough to hear the sound of your own breathing?
Welcome to Tea Talks, a place where we explore the herbs in our cups, the stories they carry, beautiful ways to prepare them, and the rituals that remind us to slow down and return to ourselves.
Today, we're beginning with one of the most visually captivating botanicals in the Rooted Vines apothecary: Blue Lotus Flower.

What Is Blue Lotus?
Despite its familiar name, Blue Lotus is not technically a true lotus.
The botanical commonly sold as Blue Lotus is Nymphaea caerulea, also known as the blue Egyptian water lily.
Its striking blue-violet petals and golden center make it immediately recognizable, but its story extends far beyond its beauty.
Blue Lotus has a long historical association with ancient Egypt, where representations of the flower appear in artwork, tombs, and ceremonial imagery. Because the flower opens with daylight and closes again, it became associated with the sun, renewal, rebirth, and the rhythms of life.
There is something especially beautiful about that symbolism.
Opening.
Closing.
Beginning again.
Perhaps that is part of the reason this flower feels so at home at Rooted Vines.
We believe women are allowed to have seasons, too.

What Does Blue Lotus Tea Taste Like?
When dried Blue Lotus Flower is steeped in hot water, it creates a delicate herbal infusion.
Its flavor can be described as:
Floral
Earthy
Softly botanical
Slightly sweet
Blue Lotus is naturally caffeine-free, making it an interesting option for a quiet tea ritual when you don't want the stimulation of traditional caffeinated tea.
You can enjoy it by itself, sweeten it lightly with honey, or use it as the foundation for a more indulgent recipe like the Blue Lotus Vanilla Honey Latte we're making below.
What Blue Lotus Tea Won't Do
Let's talk about this, because wellness has become very good at giving women one more thing they are supposed to accomplish.
This cup isn't going to organize your calendar.
It isn't going to answer the emails.
It isn't going to fold the laundry.
It isn't going to make every difficult thing in your life disappear.
And it certainly doesn't need to become another task in a perfectly curated self-care routine.
You don't need another list.
You don't need to fold another pair of socks before you're “allowed” to sit down.
Sometimes you need to stop.
Put your hands around something warm.
Breathe.
Listen to the quiet around you.
And if the house isn't quiet, listen for something even closer.
Your own heartbeat.
It's still there beneath everything that has been asking for your attention.

What This Ritual Can Do
A tea ritual can create a boundary between everything you've been doing and the moment you're standing in now.
The water has to heat.
The flowers have to steep.
The tea cannot be rushed into becoming tea.
And for those few minutes, perhaps neither can you.
Preparing Blue Lotus can become a sensory invitation to notice what is happening right now: the color spreading through the water, the floral aroma rising from the cup, the warmth against your palms, and the first slow sip.
That's the kind of wellness we're interested in at Rooted Vines.
Not perfection.
Presence.
A few intentional minutes where nobody needs anything from you.
Including you.

For a simple cup of Blue Lotus tea:
You will need:
-
1–2 teaspoons dried Blue Lotus Flower
-
8–10 ounces hot water
-
Honey, if desired
To prepare:
Heat your water until it is just below boiling, approximately 190–200°F.
Place the dried Blue Lotus Flower into your infuser or teapot.
Pour the hot water over the flower and allow it to steep for approximately 5–8 minutes. For a stronger botanical flavor, you can experiment with a slightly longer steep.
Strain and enjoy.
Start with a lighter infusion if Blue Lotus is new to you.
And then, when you want to turn that simple cup into something a little more special...

Ingredients
-
1–2 teaspoons Rooted Vines Blue Lotus Flower
-
1 cup hot water, approximately 200°F or just below boiling
-
¾ cup milk of choice, dairy or plant-based
-
½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
-
1–2 teaspoons raw honey, or to taste
-
Pinch of ground cinnamon, optional
-
A few dried Blue Lotus petals for garnish, optional
Instructions
1. Steep the Blue Lotus
Add the Blue Lotus Flower to the hot water. Steep for approximately 8–10 minutes to create a flavorful base for the latte.
2. Strain
Strain the tea into your favorite mug.
3. Warm the milk
Gently heat the milk in a small saucepan or use a milk frother until warm and lightly steamy.
4. Add vanilla and honey
Stir the vanilla and honey into the Blue Lotus tea until the honey dissolves.
5. Make it creamy
Pour the warm milk into the tea and gently stir. For a frothier latte, froth your milk before adding it.
6. Garnish and enjoy
Finish with a small pinch of cinnamon or a few dried Blue Lotus petals.
Then sit down.
The latte can wait for you to enjoy it.
The laundry can wait, too.

Make It Yours
Recipes are starting points.
Try a little maple syrup in place of honey.
Add extra frothed milk for a creamier cup.
Leave out the cinnamon and allow the floral character of the Blue Lotus to take center stage.
Or prepare the flower simply with hot water and honey.
There is no prize for making your tea the “right” way.
Make the cup that makes you want to sit down and stay awhile.
A Note About Blue Lotus and Wellness Claims
You may see Blue Lotus described online as a remedy for anxiety, sleep difficulties, vivid dreams, mood enhancement, or even euphoria.
Blue Lotus does have a fascinating history of traditional and ceremonial use, but modern scientific research on its effects in humans is limited. For that reason, Rooted Vines does not present Blue Lotus as a treatment or cure for a medical condition.
We would rather give you good information than make a beautiful herb responsible for promises the evidence cannot support.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, take prescription medications, have a medical condition, or have concerns about whether Blue Lotus is appropriate for you, speak with a qualified healthcare professional before using it. Avoid combining Blue Lotus with alcohol or other substances that may cause sedation or altered mental effects, and don't drive or operate machinery if you feel impaired after consuming it.

Steep & Reflect
Before you get up from your cup today, stay for another minute.
No phone.
No list.
Nothing to accomplish.
Place your feet on the floor and notice your breathing.
Then ask yourself:
When was the last time I allowed myself to be still without feeling that I needed to earn it?
You don't have to solve the answer tonight.
Just hear it.
Because sometimes returning to yourself doesn't begin with changing your entire life.
Sometimes it begins with water, a flower, a warm cup between your hands, and five quiet minutes in which you finally listen.
Sip slowly. Breathe deeply. Return to yourself.

For the woman learning how to return to herself.
